Every Day is Precious: Express lane
Opinion by ROB PAYNE
This week I had to take Cricket our 3-year-old Maltese to the vet. He was vomiting and not eating.
With my wife, Marcy, on the ventilator and me being the only other adult in the house and the only person trained in her vent care, it's hard for me to leave. But this had been going on with Cricket for three days it wasn't going to just go away.
The kids were home from school for Presidents Day, so Marcy suggested I take Cricket after the kids were up and before she woke.
At Williamson County Animal Hospital, I asked if there was a long wait. I explained that my wife is on a ventilator at home with my kids watching her.
The receptionist reached for the sign-in sheet, saying, ''It shouldn't be too bad; we'll see what we can do.'' As she was saying this she read my name on the sheet, then said, ''Please tell Marcy we think of her often and pray for her all the time.''
It's already been over three years since Marcy, when she worked with Happy Tales Humane, has come in with a stray for examination or alteration. But they remember her.
Before I could select a seat, the receptionist asked me to come back.
The doctor was there in moments, examined Cricket and did an X-ray. There was some inflammation and there is medicine that can help. I got home as Marcy was waking Cricket was eating again by the end of the day.
If someone cuts you off in traffic, think of Matthew 20:16 the last being first and the first being last. Consider him or her a person with a real need and thank God you don't have that need right now.
