God's Comfort Food: Recipe Home Page

One of our biggest blessings has come from our neighbors and their delivery of dinner every night. The story of how that started is below.

Recipes are on the site via a pop up window. The recipes are great, but the listing is not very sophisticated. You can find recipes you want by using the "find" feature in your browser. You can print all recipes by using your browser's printer.

If you've heard the story before, click here to go straight to the recipes.

We were surprised in May of 2002 when Mariellen, a neighbor across the street, called and said she wanted to bring dinner for our family that night. We told her that wasn't necessary, but she insisted.

We had met Mariellen and her family and waved to them as our minivans passed in the street, but we didn't know her and she didn't know us. But that night she came into our home and into our hearts.

She dropped off soup, salad, and dessert and before leaving told us another neighbor wanted to bring dinner the next night. Neighbors brought dinner every other night that May.

The end of May Mariellen brought us a list showing who was bringing dinner for the month of June. By July, neighbors started bringing dinner every single week night. They have continued bringing dinner to us every night since.

Mariellen must have gone door-to-door telling our story and "signing up" people who were willing to help. No neighbor has to bring dinner more than once a month and we had never seen, much less met, many of them. It is a great burden lifted not to have worry about deciding what to have for dinner, getting the groceries, cooking the meal, and cleaning up the pots and pans.

This act of kindness has taken a drudgerous task and turned it into a daily fun event! We never know what we are going to have and it's always great.

But more than that, it was (and continues to be) a great way to meet and get to know people who live close to us. They never stay to impose, but always stay long enough to visit a little bit. As we've learn about them, we continue learning that it's OK - even necessary - to need others.

There is so much variety and some foods that are new to us, we want to share them with all of our friends.

Since it is impractical to have everyone to our house for dinner, and there are rarely any leftovers, we've added this recipe section to the website. More will be added as time passes. Click on the "Comfort Food" button of the navigation bar anytime you want to check out the latest.
