3/27/07 Fungus Among Us?

Subject: Fungus Among Us?

Sorry it has been so long (about 5 months again) since we sent an email update on Marcy. We have been keeping up with our daily updates. (If you don't have a password or lost yours, just email me.)

Marcy received the hemodialysis (actually hemoperfusion) at Vanderbilt Medical Center the end of October. Doctors wanted to do the treatment daily but it took so much out of her, she was only able to receive 3 treatments over the course of a week. Since she became dangerously weak, we have not wanted to go back for more treatments.

Instead, we have been trying to get a new antifungal medicine that will kill the fungus that creates the mycotoxins - instead of doing the hemoperfusion that filters toxin from her blood. We finally got to try a new antifungal, Noxafil during a five day stay at Williamson Medical Center last week. Marcy tolerated it well, but it could take weeks or months to see any effect from it.

And now that we are home, insurance won't pay the $2,400 per month cost. So, for now, we have to wait on a few test results to show insurance that it may help Marcy.

Oddly enough, we are just now seeing a different $2,400 per month negative effect on our cash flow without even thinking of buying this new drug:

1. Matt turns 18 in a few weeks and when that happens we lose the child support that his biological father has been paying.

2. Clearview Baptist Church has been paying the bulk of our house note for us. They have exhausted their benevolence fund and will no longer be able to help us.

These combine to putting us $2,400 in the hole each month. And Matt is scheduled to start college this fall. Blessedly, because of our low income, almost all, if not all, of his college costs will be paid via scholarships and grants.

We have been and continue to be very blessed. We are sure this new monthly burden will become another blessing, but we don't see how - yet. If you can be part of this monthly blessing for us, please send what you can to 2051 Harvington Drive, Franklin, TN, 37069.

Marcy is still doing the ionic foot bath regularly and we are still using homeopathic remedies from Andy. Marcy is still getting out some - averaging once a week or so - and enjoys it when she does.

The kids are doing great - both just got home from Spring break - Darcy to her Aunt Laura's in Southern Illinois and Matt to Florida with the family of one of his friends.

Matt is still working about 30 hours a week at Office Depot, saving for college. He has been accepted to - and we have paid a housing deposit at - UT Chattanooga (2 hours East of us.)

Darcy continues to baby sit, but can always use more "business."

Marcy still loves to watch the Food Network. But she has started watching HGTV much more. I cringe when I see her looking around the house when she is in her wheelchair as we prepare to go out. I see her making a long "honey do" list in her mind each time.

Marcy asked me to make another plea for prayer requests. We have a few friends who will call us and ask us to pray, but Marcy has lots more room on her prayer list.

We continue to believe God is going to totally restore Marcy. We continually thank God for your prayer and care.

Love.
