4/29/06 Funds for Hemodialysis

Subject: Marcy's Wellness

About a month ago, in our last email, we mentioned that we were thinking about hemodialysis for Marcy to filter mycotoxins from her blood. Marcy was hospitalized a few days the first week of April for fluid on her left lung and we thought we would be able to get the dialysis while in the hospital. It wasn't that easy.

Nephrologists were afraid to do the treatment for Marcy's diagnosis: insurance may not pay, doctor may not be paid, doctor may be punished for treatment outside diagnosis, or there may be a lawsuit if something goes wrong. Marcy came home without the treatment and we have been looking for a way to do it since.

Dr. Reid called last night (Friday) about 9:15 saying he has found a lab to test the mycotoxin levels to measure the results of treatment and a nephrologist to perform the procedure. Here comes the big but . . .

We have to promise to pay the $7,000 to $10,000 for labs and treatment if insurance doesn't pay (and it is very likely it won't.)

People help us so much now that we hesitate to ask for more, but we are now asking our friends and family if there is anything they can do to help us secure the funds for this treatment. If money can't be sent now, we would very much appreciate a pledge for money in 3 to 6 weeks. Your quick email or call (615-794-6494) will tell us whether we should do this or not. We really don't know how long it will take to make the arrangements for treatment nor do we know how long it will take to determine if insurance will pay for it.

And they may decide they want the money up front. I would. If the treatments are done and there is no positive benefit, no one will want to pay. Though we have been disappointed before, we are eager to try this treatment. It makes a lot of sense. Dr. Reid really thinks this could help Marcy and, if so, help many, many people with motor neuron diseases, perhaps saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

We will keep a tally of funds pledged on our daily updates. (If you don't have a password for the daily updates or lost yours, just email me.)

Friends help us so much it is hard to ask for this. Just last month, when we asked for clothes for Darcy, we were swamped with love again.

And we continue to be blessed to be receiving dinners from friends. We have met some of our dearest friends when they brought dinner to us.

We still believe God is going to heal Marcy. Sometimes His healing comes through the hands of doctors. We continually thank God for your prayer and care.

Love.
