6/13/05 Latest Prayer Request

Subject: Marcy's Wellness

It's been almost seven months since sending one of these updates, but I'm still posting daily updates - if you don't have a password, just email me.

But Marcy asked me to send out an email now with a specific prayer request against Mitochondrial Disease in the kids. Some of Marcy's recent tests show abnormalities consistent with this incurable disease. The doctors at Vanderbilt want both kids to come in to be tested for this genetic disorder to see if they have it. The earliest they can see the kids is late August. In the meantime, before alarming the kids, and since they are not symptomatic, we are pushing to see if Marcy truly has it. We have had many other false leads and misdiagnoses.

Though there is no cure for Mitochondrial Diease, Marcy's primary care physician is hopeful that if we stop whatever we find wrong in her body, then other treatments (like growth hormone and/or stem cell treatments) may have a better chance of helping. We know that her healing will come from God, but we don't know if it will be through the hands of one of these doctors.

Speaking of prayer, Marcy asked me to ask you to send her your prayer requests. She spends a great deal of time in bed praying and likes praying for others more than she likes praying for herself. I post a prayer list to her computer daily (See Marcy's Prayer List to see what it looks like - but this is just a sample - the real list is private, viewed only by Marcy and me.) Just email or call me and I'll add your prayer request.

Also, Marcy is trying two new supplements that are not covered by insurance. I sold my car and that helped financially for a while, but finances are tightening again. The good news is that Marcy feels like the new supplements are helping some. One is called CellQuest and the other is a liver cleanse product formulated specifically for ALS. The CellQuest site shows how it helps lots of conditions - Marcy feels very good about this product - she has been taking it for a few weeks now. The liver cleanse site doesn't display the ALS formulation, but the Cleanse & Build product is the base for what we bought. Marcy has only been taking this for a few days.

It took almost two years of working (for the most part) 15 minutes at a time, but I have written a screenplay of our story (so far.) It shows some of the things that we have been through and shows many of the kindnesses we have seen during this part of our journey. I'm doing some things to try to get it produced, but if you or someone you know can help find a way to get it seen, please email or call me and I'll send you a copy.

A couple of highlights from the daily updates from last couple of months:

Cricket Service Dog (5/29/05) - friends helped us get certification for Cricket to be an emotional service dog for Marcy, allowing him to go with her virtually anywhere she wants.

So Cricket went with us to the airport last month. He rides in her lap and smiles at people. Everyone looking at Marcy smiles back - instead of the sympathetic and curious stares we normally get.

Darcy Graduates Elementary School (5/24/05) - We (Marcy, Darcy, Matt, and I) went to Darcy's graduation ceremony.

Here is the outfit that Marcy helped pick out and Darcy with her "diploma."

We (and she) were very proud. (Her legs are too long to fit in the picture!)

Other than getting emotional at the graduation (about the graduation and at seeing many of her friends) and being exhausted from the late night, Marcy did very well.

Matt the Explorer (5/24/05) - Matt has joined the Franklin Police Department's Explorer Club. Just after Darcy's graduation we dropped Matt off at his weekly meeting and he allowed this picture (sort of.)

Marcy and Darcy went in and met the other Explorers and the officers who are the program advisors.

Exchange City (5/11/05) - Though we could use more personal assistants for Marcy, the ones we have had allowed me to do some things with the kids and around the house. I went on a field trip to Exchange City with Darcy.

These pictures are from a picture phone - they're not that great, but I was able to upload them every few minutes so that Marcy could see them on her computer almost as they happened. You can get a feel for how the "city" looked including details like the dog and the fireplug, Darcy's workplace (the Sign Shop,) the elected Mayor making his speech at the town meeting, and Darcy at work in the Sign Shop. It was a very fun and educational day.

Nutcraker (11/12/04) - Darcy, Marcy, and I made it to the Nashville Ballet presentation of The Nutcracker.

This has been a Christmas tradition of Marcy and Darcy's for the last five years, but they were unable to go in 1993. It was a very fun day.

There's more stuff and more detail in the daily updates (if you don't have a password, just email me.)

We continue to thank God each and every day for your prayer and care.

Love.
