2/3/04 Breathing in the Holy Spirit

Marcy Can Breathe on Her Own!

Last Friday (1/30) at 2 p.m. Marcy looked towards her vent tube as if I was to do something to help her. I asked if the tube was coming off – it pops off on its own sometimes. She rolled her eyes and looked away as if she wanted it off.

I said, "You want me to take it off?" She blinked yes and I took it off for about 2 minutes and she breathed on her own. I could see her chest moving up and down.

I didn't time that first one – all I could do was say, "Thank you Jesus" and praise God. She later "told" me she felt like she had been breathing the Holy Spirit for the previous two days and He prompted her to breathe on her own Friday afternoon.

At 3:10 Friday she breathed for Matthew (when he got home from school) for 2 minutes, 43 seconds.

And again at 4:00 p.m. for Darcy for 3 minutes, 25 seconds.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday, the McHughs brought dinner and Marcy showed them her breathing for 3 minutes, 40 seconds.

Saturday and Sunday she did it again. A couple of times each day for 2 to 3 minutes each, the longest running 4 minutes, 4 seconds.

We videotaped her breathing for Darcy. Click here to see the movie. If you want to hear Darcy's squeal of joy, make sure you have your sound turned on. The sound of the vent alarm is a little annoying, but it's worth putting up with it to hear Darcy.

The breathing came after a week of more movement.

Last update we showed you how she can move her right hand at the wrist.

January 20, while doing her range of motion exercises, I felt her push back a little with her left hand, not enough to be visible, but there was movement where before there had been none.

January 22 Darcy saw her first move her left arm at the elbow – again very, very slight, but visible movement.

January 25 she moved her left shoulder in a very visible way.

Even though Darcy says it looks like a potato, this is a picture of Marcy's shoulder. Her neck is at the top of the screen and her shoulder to the lower right.

It's not as exciting to watch as the breathing movie, but you can click here to see the movie of her shoulder moving.

Marcy "told" me that for the past few days God had told her to start picking up things.

She is still doing each of these movements and each is growing a tiny bit each time she does them.

Why Now?

Many of our friends will say that the Pennsylvania treatments are starting to kick in.

We believe these activities are a direct answer to intensified prayer.

After seeing Gainesville Georgia pastor Jentezen Franklin on TV speak on the power of fasting, praying, and giving, I started a fasting program January 18. The nutshell version of his message is that in Matthew 6 Jesus says, "When you pray . . ." "When you give . . ." "When you fast . . ." and that when you combine these 3 commands, powerful things happen.

January 19, we wrote to 5 ministries we love, including the Georgia pastor's, asking each to join us in prayer and fasting.

January 24 our friends from Grace Church came to pray with a minister from Mozambique

January 25 Jentezen Franklin (mentioned above) picked our letter to read in front of thousands of people at a healing service in his Gainesville, Georgia church. Vicki, a member of the congregation, called us to tell us about it and sent us a videotape of the service. Next to the alter you can see dozens of laundry bags filled with letters and emails received by church as a result of Pastor Franklin's TV appearance. All were asking for prayer for healing. The people at that service prayed for Marcy that night and Vicki prays for us daily.

January 28 elders from Clearview Baptist honored our request by coming to the house and praying for Marcy and anointing her with oil (James 5:14.)

If you follow the chronology of what's been going on with Marcy above, you'll see the "coincidences."

We realize we have done nothing to earn any of our blessings, they are all by the grace of God. But we also believe that if we ask not, we have not and we have been asking a lot more often lately.

Even if you choose to give the glory to the medicine, those administering the medicine give the glory to God.

Please continue to pray for us. We are convinced that is what is bringing Marcy back. Even if the medicine is the "how," prayer is "why."

The Book

You may have read some of our columns in the Tennessean or on this site, but I think only me, Marcy and my mother have read them all!

Several people have told us they enjoy reading them and have asked how they could see all of them.

In March, there will be an easy way to read the first 30 columns and to pass them along.

Cold Tree Press is publishing a book of the columns (illustrated by Darcy) for us.

We'll only print what we think will sell, so if you would like copies of the book, it would be very helpful if you would let us know now so that we print enough.

Respite

I mentioned in our 1/23 column that Michele and her angels stayed with Marcy for a couple of hours while I went out to play Laser Chase with the kids.

Michele has come every Thursday afternoon since 1/15, giving me a little time to get to know the kids better.

This has been and continues to be a huge blessing for me. It also gives Marcy a break from me for a little while. She enjoys talking with Michele.

Old News

We mentioned in passing in our last email that the Golf Tournament in October was successful and raised money for the Pennsylvania treatments.

We've had video of the news story that was done on Marcy just before the tournament but I couldn't get it to work on the website until now.

Though it's old news now, this video will give you a good idea of our day to day world. Click here to view.

Specific Prayer Request

At the risk of sounding greedy, and we ask with thanksgiving for all we have already received, our specific prayer request right now is that Marcy sees even more strength - in her neck to support her head, in her hands and arms, and in her lungs to be able to talk again.

We continue to thank God each and every day for your prayer and care.
