3/12/02 Prayer Request

From: Rob Payne <rob@everydayisprecious.com>

Subject: Marcy's Wellness

Sorry it's been so long since we've written an update on Marcy.

So much has happened since our 6/2/01 update that it has seemed a monumental task to capture it all and send. The truth is, since the positive test for Lyme last May, we have been waiting for Marcy to show some sign of improvement so that we can shout out the treatment God sent us that works for Marcy. We are hoping this treatment will help others.

Instead of improving, Marcy has declined since May. Marcy hasn't walked since Thanksgiving. She can't lift her arms above her head or roll over in bed on her own.

Though her body is down, her spirit is up.

Instead of waiting on physical progress and reporting it to you, we thought we would anticipate progress and ask for your prayers to help make it happen. We pray more and more often but have reawakened to the fact that the more prayer the better. Please pray for a word from God for Marcy.

Since our last email, we have tried many treatments, including:

  • Growth hormone therapy - Last August Dr. Crist tested Marcy as a potential candidate for growth hormone therapy. A high percentage of his patients test deficient in growth hormone and giving growth hormone helps arrest the decline and reverses symptoms. But Marcy tested normal for growth hormone.
  • Amino acid supplements - When Dr. Crist called to tell us about the growth hormone test results, he told us about a biochemist in California, Dr. Tim Cochran, who tests for 200 different factors and has found a profile of biochemical deficiencies in ALS patients. Most of the factors tested are amino acids and fatty acids. He has tested enough people to establish a normal range for each of these factors and prescribes biochemicals to patients deficient in specific factors. Monday 10/15/01 Marcy started taking the biochemicals that help other ALS patients. 11/5 Marcy started taking the dose prescribed to match the deficiencies shown in her blood test. After 5 months of taking over 80 powders and pills a day, Marcy has now tested more deficient than she did in October. 3/11/02 we ordered IV amino acids to try to get them directly into her blood stream, thinking her digestive system isn't absorbing them.
  • Holistic/Homeopathic medicine - January 2002 we saw that even if the amino acid powders were helping slow Marcy's decline, they weren't helping her improve, so we began working with Dr. Zieve, an MD in Louisville who practices holistic/homeopathic medicine. Most of the things we have tried since then have been prescribed by him.
  • Bee Venom therapy - There is a guy in Canada who spends 5 weeks in the Spring collecting venom from honey bees (the stuff that irritates your body when a bee stings you.) He bottles it and people with immune system break downs inject a small amount (1cc) between the layers of skin - 6 or 7 injections at one time - every other day - starting on the back of the neck and moving to other parts of the body. The theory is that the bee venom stimulates the immune system into fighting back, hopefully fighting off other invaders in the body. The 6 injections are one type of pain, but the venom burns as it goes in, burns for about 15 minutes, whelps up like a bee sting, then itches for a day or two. Marcy endured this for about 6 weeks before stopping.
  • Remedies - Marcy has taken dozens of homeopathic remedies designed to detox, draining toxins from specific organs and areas of her body. Some are taken orally, some included in her IV treatment.
  • IV Vitamin C - Since Marcy still has her PICC line - a tube that goes into a vein in her arm - from when she took IV antibiotics, and she has difficulty swallowing, it is easier to administer some medicines intravenously. Marcy is now getting 2 IV Vitamin C treatments a week. This is also to detoxify her body.
  • Dental Work - Since our first meeting, Dr. Zieve has been very interested in Marcy's teeth. There is a school of thought that each tooth is on an acupuncture meridian and trouble in a tooth means trouble in a corresponding organ or area of the body. Marcy had her last amalgam filling removed 2/12/02 - mercury is a known neurotoxin and amalgam fillings allow mercury to leak out into the body. At a medical conference 2/23/02 in Louisville 60 health care professionals saw Marcy and her dental x-ray and discovered an infection in her jawbone from when her wisdom teeth were removed 13 or 14 years ago. Marcy is still recovering from her 3/5/02 surgery in which they scraped infected bone marrow from her jaw bone on both sides of her mouth. This infection could have contributed to her condition.
  • Ozone Therapy - Anaerobic bacteria can't live in an oxygen rich environment. 1/30/02 Marcy received her first ozone sauna treatment. She sits in a tent with her head outside the tent. The tent is filled with steam to open her pores and with ozone to be absorbed into her body. The treatment lasts for half an hour. Marcy started by doing this treatment twice a day for about a week, then moved to twice a day, and 2/20/02 stopped ozone treatment altogether. Instead of invigorating, the sauna drains her of all energy for about 4 hours. We are considering other ways of infusing ozone daily.
  • Alkaline treatments - Bacteria thrive in an acidic environment. The more we can raise the pH of our body, the healthier we will be. 2/9/02 Marcy started a weekly infusion of alkaline fluids to raise her pH. We also purchase an alkalizer/ionizer water filter the end of February and are using alkaline water as our drinking water.
  • IV Co-Enzyme Q10 - Coenzyme Q10 is a supplement taken by many people for many illnesses. It was recommended to us even before being diagnosed with ALS and Marcy has taken it orally for almost 2 years. Since the other supplements were not being absorbed into the blood stream, Marcy began weekly infusions of Coenzyme Q10 3/8/02.
  • Heparin Injections - 2/6/02 Marcy's blood tested as coagulating too quickly with too much fibrin in the blood. This blood thickness could be contributing to the lack of nutrients getting to and waste from her cells. 2/7/02 she began twice daily injections of the blood thinner Heparin.
  • IV Glutathione - Glutathione is a superantioxidant. Antioxidants fight harmful molecules called oxygen free radicals which are created by the body as cells go about their normal business of producing energy. Marcy started taking Glutathione 10/15/01 when she started her other biochemical powders. She started IV injections of Glutathione 1/15/02. She started with 3cc every other day and is now doing 5cc daily.
  • ElectroBloc - 2/5/02 Marcy started using an electronic device called an ElectroBloc to help with her swallowing. The box has electrodes that adhere to her throat and to the back of the neck. A mild electric shock is emitted every few seconds for about 20 minutes to improve blood flow and to improve the function of nerve ganglia in her neck. This is one of the few treatments from which Marcy has actually seen a little improvement. In late January she was choking on her pills, one coughing spell was over an hour in length. Now she swallows a little easier and hasn't had any coughing or gagging since starting the treatment. She still does this treatment daily. All ALS patients have trouble swallowing at some point. When they stop swallowing well is usually when the rate of decline accelerates dramatically.
  • Cranial Sacrotherapy - This is a field of therapy that believes that there is a brain rhythm that is much like the respiration and circulation rhythms in our bodies. If the brain rhythm gets out of sync, it can cause major health problems. The therapist is able to read and correct poor brain rhythms by massaging the head. The therapist also talks to you and listens to you, much like a psychologist would do. Marcy has had two of these treatments and found them to be relaxing and helpful.
  • Physical Therapy - For the last 5 or 6 weeks physical therapists and an occupational therapists have come to the house 2 or 3 times a week to help Marcy with her upper body and lower body muscles.
  • Electron Polarity - 2/23/02 we met a nutritional doctor who says that the electrons in each of our bodies are supposed to spin in the same direction. For people in the northern hemisphere, that is "to the right." In all ALS and MS patients that she has tested, a high percentage of their electrons are spinning in the wrong direction. She has a way of measuring polarity and can prescribe remedies specific to the individual that will improve/correct the balance. We are scheduled to see this doctor the end of March. In the meantime, Marcy is taking a general purpose remedy that helps many of her patients.
  • Remote Healing - 3/5/02 we met a licensed health minister in Atlanta who says God has given him the answer for ALS. He is helping heal Marcy via remote prayer.

Our prayer request is that we listen for God's word in all of this. That we learn what we need to learn so that Marcy may claim the healing that He has promised.

Please continue to keep Marcy on your prayer list. We are listening for His word and think we've heard it in many blessings since our last note in June.

We started using a rife machine 7/25. This is a gizmo that emits plasma waves that (in theory) kill bacteria. You can learn more about this on the web, We have been using it every other week.

We were due to use it again 10/27 but decided to skip until Marcy feels stronger. Marcy feels worse for several days after using the rife machine. We plan to begin again soon.Lyme doctors and patients say that means the machine is working/bacteria are being killed.

August 10, on the way to work, I asked God for a sign that Marcy would be healed and seconds later this rainbow appeared.

In August, we discovered that the 20 screen theater close to our house allows people in wheelchairs and the person pushing the wheelchair into the theater free. This is a great service to the community - movies are a great way for wheelchair bound people to escape for a couple of hours. It's not often that Marcy feels up to going to a movie the same night the kids don't need our care, but when it happens, it's a great getaway.

The end of August Marcy first asked me to wash her feet for her - even though we use a shower chair, she can't reach her feet in the shower without falling over. The next night Darcy and I read in her Beginner's Bible the story in John 13. The entire last 2 years has shown me just how weak my servant spirit is and has been for the last 45 years.

Marcy's parents have given up their life to be with us. They help out around the house and take care of the kids as we go to doctors. Their being here even allows us to go out on a "date" every once in a while. Her Dad has health problems of his own including a burst appendix in October and ongoing prostrate problems. The time her mother is away shows me all that she does while here.

Creative Workers continue covering for me at work. I am truly blessed to work with this talented and compassionate group of people.

I have enjoyed receiving my Daily Uplinks - a blanket email I look forward to receiving. Here's an example: "We shouldn't use God to solve our problems. We should see our problems as an opportunity to find God. -Larry Crabb" If you want to see more and/or to receive a daily uplink, go to http://www.tln.com/uplink/

As Marcy continues to decline, we have a renewed spirit to fight and win.

We changed back to Clearview Baptist Church because the kids missed their friends at Clearview.

The first of October I was able to go to a trade show in Las Vegas and was able to take Marcy.

We even talked Marcy into going for a 165 mile per hour ride-along in one of the Richard Petty Driving School's stock cars.

It was very thrilling, the ultimate roller coaster! Marcy was much happier before the ride (when this picture was taken) than after. It was a little too thrilling for her.

Marcy was approved for Social Security and Medicare in October, so we have been getting some financial relief. Medicare even paid for part of the electric wheelchair that helps Marcy get around inside the house.

Finally, at least part of our renewed spirit came from Darcy - "out of the mouths of babes."

I've been reading a beginner Bible with Darcy at bedtime each night. This version has questions at the end of each story as a review. After the Jesus walking on water story, the book asks "Can you walk on water?" This story didn't include the Peter part of the story, so in my mind I answered "no." But Darcy remembered having read a different version of the story that includes Peter and answered "If I'm looking at Jesus I can."

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Rob
