5/16/01 Learning About Lyme From:
Rob Payne <rob@everydayisprecious.com> That's what Dr. Crist did with us yesterday. The bottom line is that he is treating Marcy as if she has Lyme Disease until it is proven otherwise. He has 10 other "ALS/Lyme patients" - people who have been diagnosed with ALS and have tested positive for Lyme or are suspected of having Lyme. All have shown some improvement with antibiotic treatment. The doctor spent 2 hours with us. He listened to Marcy's story and talked about his experiences with Lyme. He was very humble, suggested things rather than told us what to do, and told us to listen to how the Holy Spirit guides us in our treatment. He has had the most success treating Lyme through oral antibiotics and started Marcy on one. She will be on this for at least 4 weeks while we wait on the blood test. Lyme Disease is a master of disguise - it is very hard to detect in the body. We'll have the first test results in about 3 weeks. If they are negative, Marcy will go off the anitbiotics for 2 weeks, then go back for a second test then return to antibiotics. If they are positive, the results, Marcy's history and symptoms, and Dr. Crist's experience will drive the next step in the treatment process. All in all, this gives us hope.
